Opinions: Our own one ten days after...

According to our own experience, remasters are not the big thing the whole world seems to say they are.... so the whole boxes do not worth the price, evspecially for those who own yet the 1987 CDs...

Our own check results:
- 1987 MONO CD are better than the remastered ones;
- Help, Rubber Soul and White Album's STEREO remasters are better than the 1987 ones:
all the rest of the remasters consists mainly in a bass frequencies augmenting with a loss of clearliness: the 1987 mixes are more similar to the original LP's sound, in the end....
- ...and - last but not least - the STEREO digipacks are very far from the original folders, (see the left side bar with the Apple logo!!!!): MONO edition's graphic rendition is surely better.

In the end: be careful not to easily give away your money in return of a big advertising operation...

This is our own opinion, but anyone of you can have his own one, and each one does not affect the other one...

Cheers.... Beatlesite

don't agree at all. i've played & compared for 2 weeks now & i find that the mono box is great & that the stereo box leaves the original cds in the dust. sound is 3d as opposed to 2d before. maybe i'll post a detailed analysis eventually, meanwhile i can only say i've never ever heard better versions of the beateles catalogue since the original lps. best, dr. robert

I find absurd having a Mono & Stereo boxes with different artwork layout. I love the MONO cd's design; stereos left a lot to desire. Hate the graphics and the digipacks. We don't deserve that after all these years, russians do better mini LP rendtions not to mention the heavenly like Japanesse Mini LPs.

If I understand Dr Robert correctly, he has purchased both sets and still feels that the original records sound best ( The way The Beatles and George Martin intended them to sound)
Maybe the answer is to dig out your old 12 inch records and just listen to them again (I know that APPLE/EMI will not like that)
As an alternative, I have been listening to the U.S. releases different mixes and playing orders and that does give a new perspective, plus I am listening to songs I havn't heard for a while.

well... i did purchase both books & still prefer some of my vintage lps (though i've digitalised them), but that is more a force of habit - one gets to like even the crackling spots after a few years ;-) that said, i find the new remasters sound in general spectacularly good. i tend to prefer the early recordings (up to "sgt. pepper") in mono but the later ones blow me away in stereo. i've never, ever in 30 years heard "abbey road" sound so good (vintage vinyl notwithstanding) & i'm seriously happy i got old enough to hear these versions - in fact, they are presently the joy of my life. best wishes, dr. r.
(ps: re: artwork - well, the japanese editions are pretty much always the best ones... guess i've learned to live with that by now, though i do tend to be a bit grumpy every once in a while about it; still, i also like the standard editions, they are certainly a massive improvement over the original ones).

he,he... you're right.... and you've been a bit optimistic, too.. do you think we have not to expect also THE UNSURPASSED REMASTERS and THE ULTRA RARE REMASTERS? :-)) ...and just in case, we have to expect the ovation of the media and of thousand readily influenced ears too...
